I’ve always been a coffee lover, but in recent years I’ve really jumped into the rabbit hole for both pourover and espresso – at home and at various cafes as I wander around. In recent years I’ve felt a bit of a need to share some information about the various cafes I visit and the beans I try, so I’ve been uploading occasionally to my personal Instagram. However, that is mostly unsatisfying as there’s not much room to tell a story in those few photos. I feel like I can do better.
I started blogging sometime in the late 2000s, mostly to talk about my love of Japanese baseball. Social media took over from blogging several years back, but posting content like that on social media I find is both ephemeral and ultimately unsatisfying. It’s not enough.
It hit me a few months back – why not get back into blogging, but this time sharing what I find in cafes and roasters and pop up trucks along with some pictures and maybe random thoughts? So that’s what I am trying here, a new self-built blog that quite frankly I don’t expect anyone to read. But that’s OK – while I hope many of you do in fact read and enjoy what I post here, I’m mostly doing it to have fun.
Why “Umidori”? This means “Seabird” in Japanese, a nod to my baseball team, Chiba Lotte Marines. My posts here are much like the travels of a bird – floating slowly around the world, maybe without a definite purpose, but ultimately resting in a comfortable place for a while.
海鳥のように、漂う。。。
